Kilimanjaro Climb Tour Overview
The 5 Days Marangu Route is the shortest standard itinerary on Mount Kilimanjaro that reaches the summit using hut accommodation. This route is ideal for trekkers with limited time who prefer sleeping in mountain huts rather than camping. It follows a well-established trail with gradual slopes and clear paths from start to finish.
Although shorter than the 6-day option, this itinerary still offers a full Kilimanjaro experience, passing through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the icy summit zone. Due to the shorter acclimatization period, it is best suited for physically fit climbers with prior high-altitude trekking experience.
Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,860 m) – Mandara Hut (2,700 m)
Depart Moshi and drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin trekking through lush rainforest, home to monkeys and birdlife. The trail ascends gently to Mandara Hut, where you settle in for dinner and overnight.
Highlight
Rainforest trekking and first night in a mountain hut.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours.
Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Leave the forest zone and enter open moorland. The trail becomes steeper but offers rewarding views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon.
Highlight
Expansive views and transition into high-altitude terrain.
Hiking time: 5–6 hours.
Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Kibo Hut (4,700 m)
Cross the alpine desert known as the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape is dry and barren, with thin air and colder temperatures. Reach Kibo Hut by late afternoon, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt.
Highlight
Alpine desert crossing and summit night preparation.
Hiking time: 6–7 hours.
Day 4: Kibo Hut (4,700 m) – Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Begin the summit climb around midnight. Ascend steadily to Gilman’s Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After photos, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing to Horombo Hut.
Highlight
Summit success and long descent.
Total time: 10–14 hours.
Day 5: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Marangu Gate (1,860 m)
After breakfast, descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where the climb officially ends. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi.

This 2-day safari was absolutely amazing! From the moment we were picked up in Arusha, everything was perfectly organized. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, making the game drives unforgettable. We saw elephants, lions, buffalo, and even a rhino in Ngorongoro Crater! The lodges were comfortable, meals were delicious, and the private safari experience gave us complete flexibility. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a short but unforgettable Tanzanian adventure!
I booked this safari with my family and it exceeded all expectations. Tarangire and Ngorongoro are breathtaking, and our guide made every moment special. The private vehicle meant we could stop and take photos whenever we wanted. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers who want comfort, flexibility, and adventure.
