Kilimanjaro Climb Tour Overview
The 6 Days Marangu Route, often called the Coca-Cola Route, is the most established and comfortable route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers hut accommodation instead of camping, making it ideal for trekkers who prefer solid shelters and a more direct ascent.
This itinerary includes an important acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, improving summit success compared to the shorter 5-day version. The route ascends and descends via the same trail, offering clear paths, gradual slopes, and a classic Kilimanjaro experience from rainforest to alpine desert and the icy summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
Tour Highlights
Hut accommodation
Sleep in Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo Huts with shared dining and basic facilities.
Well-defined trail
Clear paths with gradual slopes, ideal for first-time climbers.
Acclimatization day included
Extra day at Horombo Hut improves altitude adaptation.
Classic summit route
Reach Uhuru Peak via Gilman’s Point on the crater rim.
Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Moshi – Marangu Gate (1,860 m) – Mandara Hut (2,700 m)
After breakfast in Moshi, drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin the trek through lush rainforest rich in birdlife and blue monkeys. The trail is well-maintained and gently ascends to Mandara Hut, where you enjoy dinner and overnight.
Highlight
Rainforest trekking and first Kilimanjaro hut experience.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours.
Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Leave the forest zone and enter heath and moorland terrain. The trail opens up, offering views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Continue steadily to Horombo Hut, where you spend the night.
Highlight
First wide views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks.
Hiking time: 5–6 hours.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
This is a crucial acclimatization day. You take short hikes toward Zebra Rocks or higher slopes and return to Horombo Hut to rest. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy greatly increases summit success.
Highlight
Altitude adaptation and rest before higher ascent.
Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Kibo Hut (4,700 m)
The landscape changes dramatically as you cross the alpine desert known as the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Vegetation becomes sparse, and temperatures drop. Reach Kibo Hut by afternoon, have an early dinner, and rest before the summit push.
Highlight
Alpine desert crossing and summit preparation.
Hiking time: 6–7 hours.
Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,700 m) – Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Begin the summit attempt around midnight. Climb steadily to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After photos and celebration, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut.
Highlight
Summit success at Uhuru Peak and long descent.
Total time: 10–14 hours.
Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) – Marangu Gate (1,860 m)
After breakfast, descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you receive your summit certificate and meet your transfer back to Moshi.
Highlight
Completion of the classic Marangu Route.
Hiking time: 5–6 hours.

This 2-day safari was absolutely amazing! From the moment we were picked up in Arusha, everything was perfectly organized. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, making the game drives unforgettable. We saw elephants, lions, buffalo, and even a rhino in Ngorongoro Crater! The lodges were comfortable, meals were delicious, and the private safari experience gave us complete flexibility. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a short but unforgettable Tanzanian adventure!
I booked this safari with my family and it exceeded all expectations. Tarangire and Ngorongoro are breathtaking, and our guide made every moment special. The private vehicle meant we could stop and take photos whenever we wanted. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers who want comfort, flexibility, and adventure.
