Getting a Tourist Visa for Tanzania
Overview
Most foreign nationals need a visa to enter Tanzania. Tourists previously had to choose between visa on arrival or consulate applications, which was time-consuming. Now, travelers can apply for an Electronic Visa (e-visa) online, making the process simpler and faster.
The cost is $50 USD for most travelers, $100 USD for US citizens. Citizens of some countries are visa-exempt; check Tanzania’s official list before traveling.
Getting Visa Online
Apply in advance through the Tanzania Immigration website for convenience. Official online guidelines are available on the government site.
US citizens: select “Multiple Entry Visa” and “Holiday and Leisure”. Other nationals should choose single or multiple entry based on travel plans.
Timeframe
Visa processing can take up to 10 days. Apply at least 3 months before travel. Print confirmation pages and carry them to Tanzania for official passport stamping.
Completing Online Application Form
- Only use the official Tanzania Immigration e-visa form.
- Save your application number and email for later reference.
- Match your name spelling exactly as in your passport.
- Select “Holiday and Leisure” for tourism.
